The Shelby Foundation is making summer more exciting by bringing Family Fun Night at the Seltzer Pool to the children of the Shelby area for the third year in a row.

Foundation Director Carrie Kemerer said, “The Shelby Foundation’s Board truly wants to make a difference in the community. We want to positively impact people’s lives, especially kids, outside of the traditional grant-making cycle. We know there are children who cannot afford the simple luxury of going to Seltzer Pool to swim, so if we can assist in providing an evening of fun, we want to do it.”

Family Fun Night, a collaborative effort between the foundation and the pool, will not just be a single event, but three separate evenings of free admission, free snow cones, games, swimming, and more.

This year, a memorial fund established at The Shelby Foundation in memory of Cleland Wingart will be used to sponsor one of these events. Mr. Wingart, co-proprietor of the American Tower Company, used his success to benefit the children of the community, far more than most realized due to his humble nature. Among his many good works, he was instrumental in obtaining lighting for Skiles, McBride, and Copperweld fields; and was a sponsor for many summer sports teams and girls softball.

“Using this fund to give so many children a fun evening, is a fitting tribute to Mr. Wingart’s legacy,” said Kemerer.

Family Fun Night will take place three times this summer on Wednesdays, June 14, July 19, and August 16, from 7 to 10 p.m. for kids of all ages and their parents. The events will go on rain or shine but will be cancelled if there is severe weather.
