The Shelby Foundation established the Women’s Fund in 2009 to empower women of all ages to achieve their full potential and thrive as members of our community by promoting intellectual, physical, emotional, social, economic, and cultural growth.

Last year, over 150 women attended the Women’s Fund’s three-part lecture and open-forum discussion series, “Let’s Talk: Woman to Woman”, on issues relevant to adult women from a female perspective. Because of its popularity, the series is back for the third year in a row.

The series will kick off on Monday, April 30th, with “Power of the Mind/Finding Your Will Power” with speaker Mrs. Tina Bennett. Long-time Shelby resident, Mrs. Bennett will share her journey on how she mentally prepared for the daunting task of walking over 2,000 miles on the Appalachian Trail and provide pointers how we can find our inner strength to overcome any obstacle.

On Monday, August 20th, Shared Hope International Ambassador Mrs. Susi Maiyer will talk about human trafficking and how this thriving industry affects families from all different demographics. Learn what to look for at “Internet Safety & Human Trafficking – Keeping Our Kids Safe”.

The third and final presentation of 2018 will be on October 1st, and will focus on breast health. The month of October has been designated as Breast Cancer awareness month and the importance of early detection. Breast cancer is the second most common cancer in women and about 1 in 8 women born today in the United States will get breast cancer at some point. Experts at OhioHealth will be on hand to provide insight and information to detect this disease in its early stages.

Programs again will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. at The Vault Wine Bar, downtown Shelby. The registration fee is $15, which will include dinner. Come on and grab a girlfriend or two and be part of something inspiring in our community!

Space is limited. For more information about the Women’s Fund of The Shelby and to register for lectures, visit www.theshelbyfoundation.org or call 419-342-3686.
