Board Role

Role of Board of Directors
The role of the board of directors is to provide governance, oversight, and strategic leadership for the organization. Board members are responsible for protecting the mission, ensuring financial and legal integrity, and supporting the organization’s long-term sustainability.

Board members set policy, approve strategic direction and budgets, hire and support the executive director, and serve as ambassadors for the organization. While they do not manage day-to-day operations, the board works in partnership with staff to guide the organization toward its goals and ensure accountability.

Board Orientation
Board orientation is important because it helps board members clearly understand the organization, their role, and their responsibilities from the start. A thoughtful orientation ensures board members are aligned with the mission, governance structure, and expectations, reducing confusion and uncertainty.
